Tagging habits? I just started a new job so they might change a bit! Generally I'm a boomeranger when I'm online, but work in a bookstore so I have a varied schedule. I'm in CST!

Character(s): Kyna Medina
Summarize your character(s) in a paragraph or less: Kyna is a witch whose magic revolves around controlling electricity/communicating with and making pacts with spirits. Back home, she spends most of her time hunting monsters, breaking curses, and eating too much takeout. She's super social, and a total flirt or tease—anything to get a reaction out of people. She's also easy to rile up! It's hard for her to open up to people emotionally because of Trauma, though. How about you just get drunk with her or go on a rollercoaster instead of talking to her about that shitty thing that happened, huh?

Character goals? To make Actual Friends, to stop being so impulsive and emotionally driven, and to get into trouble! I also think it would be fun for her to fall in with some unsavory types and pick up some bad habits, because why not. Kyna's goals, on the other hand, are to get home and pretend she is totally fine and unshakably cool THANKS

oooh have you read any of them or just watched the show?

Just the show so far. I'm still waiting on watching S1 of the Witcher because S2 is wrapping up and I was planning on doing them both, but I might just get too impatient and binge the first season. I really liked Shadow & Bone, though. I wound up picking up the two mains so I could meme that horrible ship out since I clearly make bad life choices. From all the reviews I've seen, people have mentioned that they did alter the show from the books (which is usually how it goes), and the age up of Alina was less icky (GoT anyone?) and that they gave the characters more agency and made them more likable than the books? I suppose that depends on personal choice, though.

i would definitely agree there! it's pretty clear bardugo was growing as a writer throughout the trilogy, and then six of crows (the sequel duology with the crows) is much stronger writing wise imo. inej, kaz, jesper, nina and matthias don't show up in the shadow and bone books at all, also! they're purely in six of crows.

That explains a lot of 'but what about the crows?!' mentions I've seen while looking around. That's the thing with writers, especially ones that seem to bloom during a series. You can visually see them evolve and you kind of want to be like "Okay, that's amazing. Now can you... ah, maybe go back and fix the first ones? I mean, just a light tinkering..."
